Hyperspaces – Gives Spaces some more Options

Spaces is one of the signature features of OS X, letting you create virtual desktops to organize your applications. The downside for some heavy users is that having lots of spaces can make figuring out where things are a bit difficult. Hyperspaces looks to solve that issue by allowing you to customize your spaces.

[Hyperspaces][hyper] is a little menu application that simply sits there and does it’s job of configuring your spaces for easy recognition. It can also sit in your doc if you’d like but I fail to see the real appeal of that since it really needs to just do it’s job and get out of your view.

Hyperspaces offers a number of options to allow you to customize your spaces labels images and colours. All of the options can be configured per space, so you can have a different label (with font and colour) for each space. You could also have a different images for each space if you’d like.

You can also let your desktop icon to show or not show per space, as well as the menu bar.

Hyperspaces also lets you set your preferred keyboard command for space switching, adding a new space…Pretty much anything you can do with a space Hyperspaces lets you do it from the keyboard.

Hyperspaces also provides a visual space switcher so you can see your custom image colour or label. The regular OS X Space switcher just lets you see which Space you’re in and which one you’re heading to.

I purchased Hyperspaces with some bundle and I don’t think I would purchase it again. While it’s cool to have different pictures on my spaces I really only use two different spaces so I never find it hard to keep track of which space is which. If you’re a heavy Spaces user then it certainly could come in handy though so give it a shot and find out.

I paid for all of the applications myself but most of the links above are affiliate links.
