As I’m working on my next book called Finding Focus, I have some questions for you dear reader. If you’ll please help me out and answer these 6 questions so I can make sure the book covers topics that are relevant to you.

Believe it or not, this week I started looking at Fiverr after Maddy Osman wrote this post on content mills. The plan is not to do Fiverr for a long time, but to see what works because it might be a viable spot for starting freelancers to build some experience.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

What I Shipped

Monday I wrote about what you should be doing with your goals because yearly goals suck.

Wednesday I talked about the amount of hours you can work being constant. Don’t fool yourself, that overtime only works for a few days then you’re burning out.

Thursday we went back in the book catalogue to look at The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F_uck by Mark Manson. Here is the audio version and the written version was linked above.

Freelance Friday Five

1. Working in the Margins – CynthiaMcHale

My wife writes a great and honest post about working on the margins. Yes, she does most o the work with the kids. She does have the hardest time getting to work on her business.

I’d love to help her change that.

2. Say YES to Your Craft

Saying “yes” to your craft means saying “no” to so much else
>
This does beg the question, what are you saying no to? The stories of creatives doing things on their terms is great. How can you change what you do to suit the life you want to live? Where are you just following the status quo because someone says you need to?

3. The Truth About Lies — The Knowledge Project with Shane Parrish

This was a great show, specifically how we can shape our environment to make the decisions we want easier. Look at Switch for more on this. Same idea behind my choice to go iOS for 90% of my work. It shapes the decisions I can make around distractions.

4. Getting out of 240K of Debt – Bullet Journal

Paper notebooks and budgeting, wow my heart rate went up there. That post gives us some pretty ways to track budget progress in your journal, but the real gold is the budgeting resources provided so you can learn how to track your finances.

We used Dave’s system at home to get out of all our debt a few years ago. Wait…7 years ago, that’s crazy.

I’d also like to recommend:

Profit First has changed so many businesses I’ve come in contact with. Heck, I met a dude in the coffee shop and by the time we met again 2 weeks later he was raving about how it changed his business which is over a decade old.
Also, check out my recommendations for what to read on budgeting.

5. Free Agents 48: Lousy With the Stink of Freedom, with Merlin Mann — Free Agents — Overcast

Great talk about freelance and home. Especially the talk about home at home and work at work.
