So The Art of Focus launches on August 28th, that’s Tuesday. Came up faster than I thought it would. If you’re not on the email list and want to get told when it’s free in the first two days make sure you sign up.

This week was recording the 35k words for The Art of Focus free audio book. Finishing off getting the book on Amazon and prepping the workbook. I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

What I Shipped

Monday I wrote about the Twitter API change screwing 3rd party developers, and why I think that’s a good thing for you. In short, you should have a quieter experience.

On the Smart Business Show, I talked about which operating system is the best for your work. Listen to me talk a bit about why I no longer think that traditional desktop OS’s are as productive as we think.

Thursday, nothing. Should I Read It is on a short break to get the book launched. Should be back in two weeks.

Over on The Productivity Show you can find me talking about building focus time in to your work.

Freelance Friday Five

1. 9 Books I Recommend – July 2018

I’m always in for a good book list. I’ve read the first one (When) but none of the rest. Added a few to my list. Any you’re particularly interested in?

2. The Bullshit Web — Pixel Envy

This is a personal thing with me. I don’t think that these big companies should be tracking us and I think that so much of it is negative to the user experience of the web. Are you contributing to a bad experience online?

3. What to do when business is slow

Great post from Erin on what to do when business is slow. The one thing I disagree with is that you should just always be blogging, building your brand. You’re probably in the slow time because you stopped.

4. Why I use paper notebooks in 2018

It’s a simple video but I’m on board. I even wrote a book about my Analogue Productivity system.

5. I Wish I Never Built a Personal Brand

Interesting thoughts on personal branding. I’m building one in part because I tried to build non-personal stuff a few times and it never got the same traction. Maybe I need to build my WordPress Membership services more than my personal brand.

At the same time, I’m thinking hard about moving some of this content over to another site and branding that. I’d still write here, but it would be different. No idea where I’ll end up, but changes may come. Or maybe not.
