The first hurdle to jump when you’re starting a business is to get people to find your company. At first no one has even heard of you, or at least few people have heard you left your job and are ready to start taking on clients under your own business.
So what do you do? What brings in prospects that are worthwhile?
The baseline for any business should be an online presence. You should have a site and you should be blogging.
If you have those two pieces, have you picked a niche? If someone asks you about your ideal project do you respond with 500 words and a bunch of PDF’s attached?
I’ve written two books that can help with this. First, Finding and Marketing to Your Niche. This will help you figure out your niche and then write marketing copy that speaks to that niche.
Second, Effective Client Email will help you ask the right questions of prospects. It’s got more than my initial prospect email. It’s got a whole communication scheme for dealing with clients and prospects and protecting your time.
If you’re having trouble bringing in leads, I can help.
