I recently did a webinar with iThemes and WebDesign.com about Mastermind groups. I’ll talk more about them in the future and why I think they are super important for everyone to be involved in.

Today I want to focus on one of the questions that came up during the discussion.

I was in an accountability group and each week was really just a list of excuses about why you didn’t get things done that you said you would. How would you deal with that?

No time for that

nobody-time-for-that

Yup that’s my default position. I simply don’t have time for that crap. Sure there are valid excuses like major injury for you or a family member you have to take care of. Death in the family – valid excuse to not get things done.

What I’m saying is that 90% of the excuses people use just aren’t really valid. They boild down to the same thing.

You are choosing to do other things instead of the goals set out.

You are choosing to watch TV or read a book or even hang out with your kids. All of those can be valid pursuits at times but lets at least be honest with ourselves. It’s not that you can’t get it done, you’re making something else a priority.

Who you surround yourself with

The one who associates with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. – Proverbs 13:20

I know I’ve heard this on Smart Passive Income but I don’t think it originated there, they were quoting someone else. The gist is: “You are the sum of the 5 people you surround yourself with most”.

I don’t have the time to surround myself with people that just aren’t getting things done. I don’t have time to surround myself with people that make excuses about not getting things done.

I do have time to surround myself with people that seem to get more done than I do. I do have time to surround myself with people that are working on awesome projects that I wish I could be working on. I do have time to surround myself with people that get me excited.

Take stock right now, who do you hang out with most? Are they the type of people you want to become? If not you better find the people you want to be like and start hanging out with them.
