This article by Herbert Lui gets to some of the feelings I've had towards note-taking lately. Lui notes that currently Niklas Luhman is best known for his note-taking system, not for his contributions to sociology.

You probably started following me and became a member because of my note-taking content, not because I write about cops paying for bullets or mental health issues in children putting parents at risk. Yet these other topics are the true products of my note-taking and thinking.

I've found lately that I'm taking fewer notes and spending less time thinking about those things. I'm using a bunch of that time to produce PKM Weekly because it takes a while to read articles and add them to a newsletter. I haven't tracked the exact hours, but it's a few hours a week.

I'm reading less as well.

One thing I don't want is to be known for my note-taking. I share that because I'm sharing the process I'm using and the investigations into improving my process.

I want to be known for my thinking. Maybe for the books I write or the content that's on my site that's outside of how to take better notes.

How are you dealing with the struggle between reading about how to take notes and actually producing something of value?
