After talking about Pocket alternatives a few other options have been recommended. Including NextCloud bookmarks (which Marcel talked about in the link above) and then Glasp.

Out of the gate I don’t see an extension for Firefox so I’m out on that point alone but there is something more sinister lurking…AI. Specifically the AI Clone feature. If we can set aside the environmental impacts of AI tools using astronomical amounts of water and power in our already fragile environment there are still other issues.

You’re giving your highlights/thoughts to Glasp. I did a bit of lurking and couldn’t find anything specific but it wouldn’t surprise me if they say the data is your data and they won’t sell it, but we watched the open source Omnivore join and AI company recently and they have a decent privacy statement and they say they’ll delete your data I just don’t trust companies. They’re all about users until enough money comes knocking and then they’ll have excuses about why the money was good for them and they’ll do better stuff for you if you give a bit of privacy away.

So no Glasp is not on my list and I don’t see a scenario where I’d even consider it.
