Lou reflects on his first retirement and how it wasn’t what he expected.

I think many of us have a fantasy of what we’d do if we didn’t have to work because money wasn’t an issue anymore. While I’m sure I’d take some time totally off to reset myself I think I’d work in the shop, fix the cars, do some programming and read. Pretty much the stuff I do now, but I wouldn’t have the sense of economic urgency hanging over me all the time.

If I didn’t want to open my computer for a few days and write code, I could just not do it and focus on whatever was interesting to me.

So that’s what I think about, not “doing nothing” but being able to do what I want without any thought towards economic incentives.
