Kev Quirk writes about his YouTube Shorts addiction and it was mine too until I took the same steps and removed YouTube from my phone entirely. In fact I try very hard to only watch YouTube videos that I’ve saved into Readwise Reader or the random entertainment videos on video games I watch while folding laundry or riding my indoor cycling trainer.

The vast majority of the “learning” YouTube videos I’d watch I took no notes on, or didn’t even finish. I was never even in a place most of the time to do anything about them, hence only watching them if I’m sitting down to take notes and pulling them out of Readwise so I have a curated list.

Further, I’ve been looking at Ersatz TV to hook up to my server so that I’d automate downloading the video game streamers I like and then simply have a “fun” channel that plays through the videos so I can watch them. I’d need to become members of all the channels I enjoy though so I can pay the creators for their work.
