I agree with Matt we need to create the web we want (paid post). Matt finds that so many sites that used to be good are really just ads with a bit of content thrown in now.

His final point is possibly the most important as it mentions the consumer part of the equation.

I'm supporting the web I want to exist, as a creator and as a consumer, and I'll be writing about that mission all year. The open web can still win, but only if we build a version worth saving.

We need to support those we enjoy reading. Running a website isn't free and the expectation that the good content we want will continue to come without any type of compensation is a pipedream.

I support Matt's writing because I like what he has to say. When I disagree with it, it makes me think deeper about the topic at hand.
