RSS or someone's site, the 4-Hour Workweek and taking things to extremes.

Robbed by RSS

So are we robbed by RSS or does it improve our experience? I say read how you want. I use my own RSS reader and if an article seems interesting I open it in the site of the author. Mostly so that the author can see that someone visited their site and hopefully be encouraged if they track their traffic at all.

But also because there are some awesome site designs out there and I want to enjoy them, Kev's site being one that I have enjoyed as it's changed.

I think you should just do what works for you and not worry about how others read stuff online.

No more 4-Hour Workweek

Good post from JA Westenberg on the death of the 4-Hour Workweek. I was also a big Tim Ferriss fan, and I chased a bunch of these gurus who purported to be able to tell me how to automate my income.

All I ever got out of it was running around to try and find something that would work inside whatever system was popular at the time. Sure I made some money from courses, but never enough to stop programming and just sit back on the mythical gravy train.

I had a number of years where I hated programming and almost drove my family to financial ruin in search of passive income that never materialized.

Now, a job is a job. I program and look for interesting problems but don't look to it as some fulfillment of my life. I just do the work well, earn the money and spend time outside of work doing the "fun" things that are fulfilling.

Just be Normal

Be normal, and opt out of the deranged belief that the only way to take something seriously is to take it to the most extreme possible conclusion. - Just be Normal

Good reminder that we don't have to take everything to extremes.
