If you don’t know this already, I have a Psychology Degree and I’m build websites for a living. I have no formal training in programming or building websites. I often get nervous about the holes (large ones I have no doubt) in my knowledge due to the fact that I’m self taught. According to some people like me need to do some more learning.
While the article is centred around topics for game developers there are lots of articles that are good for any programmer in any language. I’d love to see a list like this specifically geared towards PHP and web programmers.
I also know from talking to other developers that we all have thoughts like that. Many of us have some worry that someone else will look at our code and then find out that all our knowledge is a sham.

I have degrees in physics, math, political science, and marketing. Never taken a single computer class in my life and literally taught myself PHP and JS over a weekend from a book. I question every day whether or not I really know what I’m doing. When my code breaks, I nearly have a heart attack because I think I’ve finally been unveiled as a fraud.
I don’t think “fear” is a strong enough term to describe how I feel about holes in my knowledge 🙂
Failure is the only road to success my friend… Geniuses such as Einstein and Steven Hawking were not only labeled geniuses because they were smart but rather because they failed more times than most other individuals.
