The statements of tech executives and the actions of the companies they have influence over should be setting off alarm bells in government and throughout the public. Silicon Valley is increasingly clear: they do not see the climate crisis as a serious threat. The billionaires created by the personal computer and internet booms believe they can survive whatever a warming world throws at them, and they’re willing to sacrifice everyone else to maintain their power and privilege.

Paris Marx writes about tech exec’s pushing a vision that the Climate Crisis doesn’t matter. As Marxs points out, curbing their tech ambitions would cost them money and they’re not worried about surviving any adverse climate affects because they can simply spend the billions they’ve earned and avoid any fallout of their decisions.

Over the 20 years I’ve run my business one thing has been true, when it comes to payment if I don’t make it my customer’s problem they’ll take their sweet time to pay me. As soon as service stops because of non-payment they suddenly have no problems paying on time, because they had a problem.

I think we should adopt similar ideas for the climate crisis. The CEO’s of the biggest companies that contribute to it should have to live in the hardest hit areas and live like the average person in that area. Make the problems they’re contributing to truly their problems too. I bet action would be taken immediately.
