Wulff Den did a video 6 months ago using a PC Handheld gaming system as his only computer for a week. This reminds me of people ditching their computer for an iPad Pro, yes it’s possible but there are lots of silly hoops you have to jump through to make it work as a “work” machine.
His machine doesn’t work very well as his morning news machine. It doesn’t do video editing well. Setting up the eGPU works most of the time, but not all of the time.
I hit a bunch of hurdles when I tried to use my iPad Pro as my work machine. For me it was the lack of ability to do local web development which makes my job so much easier. In theory I could accomplish this on a PC Handheld like the Steamdeck because it runs Linux and I can do whatever I want with Linux.
At this point my iPad only runs my bike trainer with Rouvy and to watch videos while I do laundry. I no longer write on it, or edit videos, or make any attempt to use it as a regular work device. It’s purely for content consumption.
