I wrote recently about why I write but others must have different motivations. Well I asked so here are some quotes about why others write.
because if I didn’t the daemons in my head would crawl out my eyes instead of my fingers.
Writing publicly keeps me accountable to myself, it keeps me on my toes. I find it one of the best ways to do so.
I just enjoy it. I love writing, expressing thoughts in the written medium. Throughout my life, I’ve always spent a good amount of time each day writing things. Whether it has been fiction writing, posting on message boards, commenting on HN, chatting on IRC or even blogging, writing my thoughts out is something that I can’t help doing each and every day.

Theraputic and cathartic exercise? Writing to get something off your chest is always good.
I write because I enjoy it, but I enjoy it for a variety of reasons: It helps me to reason through a lot of various thoughts and perspectives I have on a given issue, it helps me to discuss ideas with others who may end up providing a more educated, or a better perspective of my own, and I hope that what I write ultimately helps someone along the way in doing what they do.
I write because it provides clarity around my own thoughts and ideas; it refines them at the same time. It’s highly personal and utilitarian.
Just writing about something can trigger ideas that I didnโt have before. I always find itโs a great way to explore a new angle or idea.
If you got missed, feel free to add your reason in the comments.

thanks for including mine! one thought though… it’s hard to know if i’m reading the person above me or below me’s thoughts! clearer indication of authorship would be nice!

hey i made the list and at the top no less. thanks!
A lot of times writing helps me learn more about the topic I’m writing on. Other times, writing just helps me wrangle my thoughts and put them in a box and put a bow on them. ๐ Most of all, it’s just addictive when you write something that people read and share and comment on. It feels good!
On one side of the coin writing helps me feel organized and disciplined. When I haven’t put something out for a while, it’s a reminder to get back at it.
I don’t think I’m necessarily any good at it, but there’s a feeling of achievement and improvement with every post. Like a 0.00001% upgrade ๐
Plus, hey, I like to let people know what’s on my mind.
