Decluttered is a different book that I imagined it would be. I expected a book about strategies to reduce the clutter in my home, but I got a bunch more discussion about the systems that bring clutter into our homes and the trauma that may have caused these systems as valid coping mechanisms. Albertini has a background in the fight against HIV/AIDS around the world and her thinking about the person and clutter shows.
I found the discussion in the third section about “clutter” not only being the things in our lives but also the tasks/systems that give us more to do than we can interesting. None of the content in the book is very deep, or at least I was unable to take it deeper than the words on the page. As such I skimmed more and more of the content as I got further into the book.
I can’t recommend this book if you’re looking to declutter. The best part were the books recommended that sound interesting.
