On Revision book cover

If you want to write non-fiction then William Germano’s book is one you should put on your list to read. Germano walks us through what it means to revise. It’s not fixing spelling, or doing a final polish, revising is all about understanding what your writing actually does instead of what you think it does. Does it take the reader to the revelation you hope to bring them to?

German has great advice on why ideas fizzle, maybe they weren’t good or you don’t really understand them.

He says the only writing that matters is the writing you take to it’s final form so that it has a chance to persuade readers, and don’t for a second think that you’re smarter than your readers. If they don’t understand your argument they didn’t read it wrong, you didn’t do the job of good writing and convey your point.
