This is a short guide showing you how to maximize your reading if you own an e-reader, specifically focusing on the features that come with a Kindle. While there is some good advice here I take exception with his advice on note-taking in books.
Singh says that taking notes in a notebook is way too hard and thus you’ll never do it, but he also says that your notes on books are only as valuable as the work you put in, while advising you on the ways to put the least work in during highlighting and note-making time.
I agree that any notes are not worthwhile if you don’t have a system in place to review them, and do more with them as you combine knowledge. I don’t love his focus on Readwise (which is a service I love) as the thing that will do this work for you by surfacing older notes with it’s built in review tools.
Which one is it? Do you need to do the work, or should it be automated so you don’t have to do much work?
