I recently had the opportunity to contribute my thoughts to Web Designer Magazine out of the UK. The question I, along with others, was asked is “Is Web Design a Dying Art?”
The premise of this is based on the strong tools that are coming out for people to build their own websites and blogs while needed to know little if any coding.
Personally I have had a number of clients that have started off with automated tools to build their websites just as a number of years back many people took up their own desktop publishing as tools moved from complex to easy.
Ultimately a tool does not a designer make. I own a hammer but I’m not a carpenter. I feel that there will always be a place for designers on the web. There will always be people who see the benefit of professionally designed websites and who will pay a designer to do it.
I don’t think that web design is a dying art it just may push out some of the lower end competition as those clients decided to just to the work themselves.
