Welcome to the PKM weekly newsletter. My goal is to round up good resources in the PKM space so you don’t have to.

If you get value out of this newsletter consider supporting it by becoming a member. You can either get my weekly thoughts or all my courses and my weekly thoughts. You could also purchase a course if that fits your needs better.

Bigger Ideas

Platform agnostic ideas that may help your PKM process. They may feature a software, but I think they apply to more than a single platform.

Join Martin Adams during a study session. I always enjoy seeing how/what people are doing with their systems.

Tiago Forte was on the Focused Podcast, which was discussed at length here.

Do you take notes on fiction books? I grab things that really stick out to me, but in general no.

I’m a time blocker, heck I even did a course on it, but maybe I need to change how I think about handling my time.

I put together a video on building a production system for your notes.

An older video but I found it to be a great reminder about organizing your notes.

Here is a visual summary of Building a Second Brain by Tiago Forte. This is on my list to read this summer. It’s currently sitting in my office.

Dr. Katie Kinney talked about how to organize research. It assumes you have a main research project that you’re working towards publishing.

Scott walked through using Zettelkasten for reading. He also did an hour-long video showing you how he is writing his Zettelkasten book.

I always like seeing the excitement as people get enough notes to see that Zettelkasten makes connections.

Something Interesting

Because we’re all lookin to expand our minds a bit.

This was an excellent video on mental health online.

I enjoyed Devon’s ode to Indie Apps over monoliths from big companies.

If you’ve wondered about mechanical keyboards, here is a good starting point.

Is there a PKM tool like Things 3? I did a video on Things and Obsidian integrations, but I’m not sure that’s what the poster is looking for.

Software

Maybe you should put your whole Zettelkasten in Zotero?

Twos App is a daily note focused task manager that looks interesting.

Take Control of DEVONthink has been updated and is a free download.

DEVONthink put up a post explaining how their sync works.

PDF Expert has a large update and design refresh. It also went subscription, so while I love it I don’t think I’ll be upgrading. I already have so many subscriptions and DEVONthink handles my minimal PDF needs easily.

logseq

How a dentist and researcher is using logseq.

Logseq is pushing to get community involvement in writing documentation. Good documentation is hard work, yet it’s often not given as much cheering as some new plugin or feature. I spend lots of my regular job writing docs at the expense of new features, but good docs speed up my own development long-term because I don’t have to look stuff up.

They’re also running learning sprints to help users master queries. While I’m not a logseq users, the docs effort and the learning sprint make me very excited about the tool and the community.

Craft

How to customize your Craft spaces.

There is a new mermaid extension for Craft. Mermaid lets you create diagrams, which I absolutely had to look up.

5 ways to be productive with Craft templates.

I agree it does seem like the momentum behind Craft eXtensions has slowed. The developer forum is pretty much a ghost town now.

Here is a workaround to add a task to Craft with a Shortcut.

Obsidian

Monica has a question about Dataview.

Obsidian v0.15.3(Insider build) brought the ability to drag and drop panes across windows. I haven’t worked with multiple windows yet, but I’m excited about the feature.

A few posters have added to the big list of published Obsidian vaults.

Don’t forget about the Obsidian Roundup email. I use it all the time to get Obsidian-specific news.

How to create a book library in Obsidian.

Yup I use affiliate links sometimes to support the newsletter. If it’s on Amazon, it’s an affiliate link for sure.
