Today we’re going to take a first look at Bear 2.0 released by Shiny Frog software. Bear is an excellent note-taking application for macOS, iPadOS and iOS. That means if you use Linux or Windows…you’re out of luck when it comes to this beautiful application.

During this first look we tested out the formatting of Bear notes, which supports Markdown and for those that don’t know Markdown, it has a nice formatting bar. We also did some light testing of the import function when we imported just under 1000 .md files.

My overall impression, Bear is a good app. The biggest thing that will trip up users is that Bear 2.0 doesn’t support folders and organizes everything in tags. Some people won’t be able to get past this, though I think that it can work for 99% of users if they just spend a bit of time organizing their notes to not rely on folders.

Ultimately, Bear is an excellent application for taking notes and if it works for you then enjoy using it.
