So it turns out that people like flexible work and don’t want return-to-office policies mandated.

I’m baffled that companies were caught off guard by high attrition rates when they mandated return-to-office policies. Employees got a taste of what autonomy is like and realized that sitting in the office every day all day was a bad deal. It’s especially bad for those that have caregiver duties.

If some company wanted me in the office 9-5 they’d have to pay me enough that I could retire after a year or two of work. I just can’t see giving up lunch with my wife, a quick slip-n-slide break with my kids, and the flexibility to see a nice window of weather to get a bike ride in.
