Thoughtful post from Tracy but the last line stuck out to me:
If leftists can drop our pride and purity, I think we could gain more results through coalition than trying to make people perfectly match our alignment on every cause.
I recently read Moral Ambition and one of the key points of chapter 4 was that it’s our moral duty to win. Bregman sees issues with intersectionality in the ability of “leftist” coalitions forming. It seems harder and harder for progressives to work with others on say climate change, if everyone doesn’t follow the most liberal ideas on transgender athletes1.
We need to be willing to align on a single cause without requiring the most virtuous signals possible from everyone that wants to help.
