The minimalist mindset has you remove all distractions from your environment so you can stay focused on the task at hand. I use headphones to block out the kids in the house when I’m working, and endeavour to stick with the tools I have instead of trying to find something new.
Into this mindset comes the Auto Hide plugin for Obsidian. I love this type of tool, it does one thing and has virtually no settings. Head to the Community Plugin section of Obsidian settings, search Auto Hide, install and activate it.
From there any time you click into your writing area your sidebars will hide. If you have keyboard commands set with Left Sidebar Toggle and Right Sidebar Toggle you can open them again and have them open while typing as Auto Hide registers your click into the writing area as it’s trigger to hide the sidebars.
I’m not sure this is for me, in part because my normal writing monitor is 4k and 45″ wide so the sidebars are at the edges of my vision anyway. I also end up using the right sidebar often to search through my notes and find related content, but if your suffering from sidebar distraction in Obsidian, this plugin may be exactly what you’re looking for.
